Verena found her way into the construction industry via a career change. Today, she is the specialist group leader of a twenty-strong team and is responsible for IT project management and development coordination.

From medical informatics to STRABAG IT

I found my way into the construction industry by making a career change. I originally came from the field of medical informatics, but due to a change of interest during my studies in business informatics, I decided to make a change and take up a position as a project manager in IT at STRABAG.

The international nature of STRABAG IT and the many software products developed in-house always produce exciting and challenging projects and offer a lot of variety. What I found very nice and remarkable even back then is that at STRABAG you are given the opportunity to develop yourself further and that motivation is more important than your CV.

Just four years after joining the company, I was offered the position of team leader. I was very pleased about this opportunity and, above all, the recognition of my work.

IT project management at STRABAG has only been an independent team since 2020 and is therefore still quite young. Today, it is the largest in the entire software development department with a total of eleven colleagues. Even though the majority of our team is still predominantly male, I feel very comfortable here as a woman or female employee and feel very appreciated.
